God's Call to Support Israel
by
Dr. Robert Carroll
There are five main areas which have caused Israel to suffer attack since its rebirth as a Nation in 1948.
- War and Terror. From the moment Israel was reborn her Arab neighbors have caused war and terror against the land and the people. Israel until this day has been a land of wars. Over the past twelve months Israeli?s have been subjected to an unprecedented number of terror attacks by people such as Hizbullah, Islamic Jihad and a number of others who have decided to jump on the wagon of terror. Who in their right mind would blow themselves up? Who in their right minds would fly a plane load of innocent people into a tower as was the case in the United States? Yet, this is the sort of incident that the people of Israel are living with each day that comes. It is, of course, interesting to note, that the people who encourage, plan and control these people never put themselves in danger!
- Islam. One of the greatest sources of spiritual conflict in the Middle East is the religion of Islam. It is a religion which is embraced by just over one billion around the world. Theologically, of course, it is in total opposition to the purposes of God. At this moment in time it is spreading across the globe like wild locusts destroying everything in its path. Its chief desire is to destroy both Christianity and Israel (including the Jewish race). It wants WORLD DOMINATION. A fact which so many within the pews of the church appear to have forgotten, - especially at leadership level.
- The Press. There is a saying that the pen is mightier than the sword and the press here in Britain has been at the forefront of using the pen against Israel.
- Immorality. Israel is called the Holy Land - yet the truth of the matter is that on the subject of sin - it is anything but holy. The land is filled with as much immorality and homosexuality as any nation of the world. It suffers from the problems of abortion, occult practices and drugs on a level found in most western societies, including the USA and Britain. In this area, they need much prayer and intercession.
- The Church. Perhaps of all that Israel has had to suffer, the one area where she should have found comfort was the church. Yet, instead of finding comfort and support, many within the church have not only stood by and watched events unfold, but have actually joined with others who have sought to destroy both Israel and the Jews. In direct contravention to the teachings of both the Bible and the commandments of Jesus Christ. Jesus gave the command that we should love our neighbor, how strange that when it comes to showing that love, it falls on deaf ears when we talk of our Jewish neighbor! God?s promises concerning Israel have not changed, for example: ?Isaiah 45:17, ?But Israel shall be saved by the LORD with an everlasting salvation: You shall not be ashamed or disgraced forever and ever? (NKJV). The Prophet Jeremiah (32:39-41), ?Then I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me forever, for the good of them and their children after them. And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good: but I will put My fear in their hearts so that they will not depart from Me. Yes, I will rejoice over them to do good, and I will assuredly plant them in this land, with all My heart and with all My soul? (NKJV).
Pressure on Israel. It is standard, recognised practice that Satan, when he cannot destroy anything from outside will attack from within. There have been moments of peace within the borders of Israel over the past years but internal attacks are building up. If Satan can destroy Israel - he can claim to have destroyed the very words of God. But see Zechariah 1:14 ?So the angel who spoke with me said to me, Proclaim, saying, ?Thus says the LORD of hosts: I am zealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with great zeal? (NKJV).
A Price for support of Israel. It is obvious that there is going to be a price to pay, both for the Jew and the Christian who stand by them. Throughout the New Testament the church is clearly identified with its Jewish roots - these roots lie deep in Jewish history. The hard fact is that those who stand by the Word of God on the matters of Israel, will surely be labelled with them in the eyes of those who wish to see the destruction of God?s ancient people.
